Farewell to Grader

posted 24 Sep 2015, 15:43 by Epsom Rowing

Over the last ten years Epsom Rowing has enjoyed the long and dedicated contribution of  'Grader' Howells - who has been a mainstay in developing the club to where it is today. At the end of last season Grader announced his retirement from coaching.

The Epsom Rowing committee invite you to a function at the Auckland Rowing Club on Sunday, 11 October at 4pm to celebrate Grader's wonderful contribution. Many of you will have fond memories of Grader, so it would be great if you could join us to show your appreciation and take the opportunity to catch up with some other past rowers and club supporters.

We will also be taking the opportunity to recognise the recent arrival of the club's second new KIRS 8 with the naming of our latest acquisition.

Please bring a bottle and plate of nibbles to share. We look forward seeing you there.

Samosa fundraiser

posted 20 Sep 2015, 02:10 by Epsom Rowing

We are running a samosa fundraiser again this season. Samosa sales have always been very successful and it's an easy way for every family to pitch in. Get in touch with your family/friends/contacts in Auckland and ask them if they'd like to place an order. Also read the selling tips to help increase your sales figures. Vegetarian, chicken and lamb are $17/bag, butter chicken is $19/bag. For every bag of samosas sold, our club receives $6.  Read the latest news email on how to order.

Congratulations!

Pre-season boat Maintenance

posted 6 Aug 2015, 19:35 by Epsom Rowing

Introduction to Maintenance 101
Maintenance of our equipment is an important, on-going job. To date, this job has been done by a couple of people. We are now inviting all parents to get involved in this friendly introductory maintenance class. We need a minimum of 8-10 people.

At the end of the 2015/16 season, our most experienced maintenance people will be leaving. It is essential that new people understand what is required and take on the responsibility. Learn from the experienced now, or learn the hard way.

The Tamaki Estuary is a harsh marine environment and the boats need protection from salt build up. Surprisingly, even the brand new (unnamed) eight needs work prior to being used. This hands-on session will involve disassembling, labelling, lubricating and re-rigging the boats.
Date: Saturday, 8 August
Time: 10:30am
Where: ARC, Ian Shaw Park
BYO: 10mm spanner
RSVP: Matt Kerrigan, phone/text 0275335 661 or email matt@fix-it.co.nz

Be part of the team
The role of the Maintenance Team is to look after the boats and existing plant to the best of our ability using the available resources. Put simply, the more people we have helping, the less time it takes. Oar Sport magazine suggest pulling apart all boats for cleaning and maintenance twice a year. We have only just managed once a year after three years of repair work. There simply has not been enough time or help.

WE NEED YOU!

As a member of the Maintenance Team you will be doing something practical that makes a real difference. Plus, we’re a good bunch of guys!

Successful completion of the class may result in the sampling of some cold fermented amber coloured liquid from green bottles.

Thanks

Grader's Farewell - Sunday 11 October at 4pm at ARC - bring a plate

posted 3 Aug 2015, 01:34 by Epsom Rowing

The growth, development and success of EGGS Rowing is a credit to the hard work and commitment of our rowers, coaches, parents and committees. Many are involved for a few years, and a precious few over many years.

Over the last ten years Epsom Rowing has enjoyed the long and dedicated contribution of one of these long serving individuals - 'Grader' Howells - who has been a mainstay in developing the club to where it is today but this last season Grader has announced his retirement from coaching.

The Epsom Rowing committee invites you to a function at the ARC on Sunday 11 October at 4pm to celebrate Grader's wonderful contribution. Many of you will have fond memories of Grader, so it would be great if you could join us to show your appreciation and take the opportunity to meet some other past rowers and club supporters.

Collaboration League a big success!

posted 18 Jun 2015, 20:19 by Epsom Rowing

The optional winter training programme that Paul and Nadia have organised in conjunction with the Waitemata Rowing Club is going extremely well and many keen EGGS rowers are showing up bright and early on weekend mornings with their usual enthusiasm.

The feedback is extremely positive with rowers reporting that they are learning a lot in terms of technical rowing skills, improving strength and fitness, getting a better understanding of moving the boat faster and having the opportunity to experience different perspectives and seat positions. Also of course having a whole lot of fun and making some new friends and rowing contacts at the same time.

A big thank you to Nadia and Paul for this initiative and for making it possible for EGGS rowers and coxswains to be involved. There are more Saturday and Sunday sessions planned, so for anyone who is not yet involved and wants to be please contact Paul or Nadia.

Committee Vacancies

posted 18 Jun 2015, 20:16 by Epsom Rowing

At the upcoming AGM a new committee will be appointed for the season ahead. Many of the current committee have indicated an interest in continuing to serve the club, but there are some vacancies to be filled and interest is welcome. For those parents interested, please call Andrew or Lachie to discuss. Nominations are also required to be sent to the club secretary by 30 June. If there are more nominations for any positions a secret ballot vote will be held at the AGM.

In addition to the committee roles most of the committee members require some support during the season as there is usually plenty to do. Maintenance, logistics, catering & fundraising are all busy functions that require extra resources from time to time.

The rowing club is your rowing club and relies heavily on the volunteer contributions of parent supporters so please don't be shy!
